How this local desk works
A dated source record, with geographic limits you can inspect.
Coverage
We selected one populated Census ZIP Code Tabulation Area in each of Florida’s 67 counties. ZCTAs approximate ZIP geography; they are not current USPS delivery boundaries. A representative point is not a street address or the whole ZIP area.
Current sources include statewide National Weather Service alerts and Florida emergency-management bulletins, plus verified county civic feeds for Miami-Dade and Lee. Other county civic feeds remain explicit source gaps.
Timing
The worker attempts a source check every five minutes. Source publication, event, retrieval and check times are separate. A successful fetch does not make an old article new. Missing dates remain unknown; future-dated records are quarantined. Delayed or failed sources are marked stale while their last retrieved records remain visible.
Provenance and corrections
Records preserve a source URL, source digest and immutable version ID. New source versions receive new IDs. An expired or cancelled alert is distinguished from a current one. This is not a complete news archive, an emergency notification system or a claim that every event in a ZIP has been observed.
Contribute useful evidence
Find a county’s official feed, establish its coverage and permitted use, and submit a dated observation. Contributions are provisional until reviewed; a link or repeated claim is not independent verification. Only reviewed fixed sources enter the fetcher.
